Primary Care Program

The CMS Primary Care Program ensures that Florida's under-served pediatric population, especially those children with special health care needs, enters a comprehensive, coordinated system of pediatric health care as early in life as possible. The CMS Primary Care Program works closely with the county public health units when arranging service provision for all enrolled children. This allows for the maximization of community resources while providing the best quality primary care services. Any child from birth to 21 years of age currently enrolled in a Department of Health, Department of Children and Families, or Medicaid program and his or her sibling(s) are eligible for the CMS Primary Care Program. A collaborative effort between state government, local pediatric physician groups, and community resources provides the following services through the Primary Care Program:

  • Primary care which includes sick and well child care (including Well Child Checkups and immunizations).
  • Sub-specialty acute care services through referral to local specialists or the CMS clinic.
  • Ancillary services (labs, x-rays, etc).
  • Pharmacy services for families not covered by Medicaid.
  • Care coordination to maximize community resources and provide support to families.
